Gardening Tools for New Gardeners

Nobody says that you have to buy a bunch of expensive gardening equipment if you want to grow a nice garden but having the right gardening tools at your disposal will certainly help things along. Yes you can dig holes with your hands but why do all that work when using a hand trowel accomplishes the same thing? The simple fact of the matter is that the right tools are very important-no matter what it is that you want to accomplish.
Many new gardeners say that figuring out which tools they really need is difficult. These are just a few of the more important tools to have on hand if you want to grow an awesome garden.
If your garden has delicate or small plants growing in it, a garden spade is a tool you should have on hand. You can easily uproot weeds with a garden spade. They can also help you clear dirt and debris from plants without doing damage to the bases of the plants. You can also use them to help you plant seeds. A spade isn't something that you will use heavily but it you will be glad you bought it during those times when you need to do work in your garden but don't want to have to worry about damaging your plants. Your spade will save you lots of time and effort with a bunch of different gardening tasks and projects.
Every gardener will be able to find use for a pitchfork-even if the garden plot is very small! Pitchforks will do the same things that trowels and spades do but they do it bigger. They are great for turning earth, moving compost around, aerating soil. Compost needs to be turned as it breaks down and decomposes-you will need to have a pitchfork to help you with the turning. If you don't turn your compost pile regularly it will just harden up and you won't get any use out of it.
You need to have a hand trowel. If you are new to gardening you might think that you should only use your hands to transport your smaller piles of dirt. The more time you put into your garden, however, the more useful you will find your hand trowel. A hand trowel keeps your actual hands protected. Gardeners use trowels to maneuver the dirt surrounding the plants in the garden (without damaging the plants themselves) and to help speed up the weeding process. There are lots of different sizes of hand trowels and they can be used with pretty much any plant.

Nobody knows which gardening tools they really need when they are just starting out. As a new gardener you are going to want to buy everything the sales person offers you. Instead of dropping a few paychecks on gardening supplies you might not need start with a few basics and then add to your collection as you need to. This will save you money, time and storage space in your gardening shed. Eventually you will be able to tell exactly which tool is needed for which gardening task you need to accomplish.
