Stay Safe While You Are Gardening

Articles abound with tips for making your garden grow this spring and summer! Composting, aerating, weeding, feeding, watering, repeat - that about covers. This article talks about tips to help you garden in safety and comfort since there are dangers that can lurk among the flowers and tomatoes.

Practice these 5 tips and you will have a great gardening season.

Protect Yourself from the Heat

Vegetables and Lillis enjoy a setting that is in full sunlight. Your skin doesn't! Wear a broad brimmed hat and cover your arms with either sunscreen or a light cotton shirt. Some sun is good for us, enhancing the production of Vitamin D. Too much sun is not healthy. Limit your exposure and youll keep your skin safe and healthy.

Wear Gardening Gloves

Nettles, bees, thorns, pruning shears, tool handles and other menaces can sting, nick, poke or blister our hands. A sturdy pair of gloves, preferably leather, could keep your hands blister free and safe from the dangers you might run into when you are gardening.

Carry Water With You To Hydrate!

Keeping all your green things watered as needed is essential to their growth and fruitfulness. Keeping yourself hydrated is much more important. Carry water bottles with you and remember to drink from it frequently.

Take Care of Your Back and Knees

We all know what its like to have sore knees or an aching back the day after some serious gardening. Soft knee boards or even knee pads can really take the pressure off your knees. If you have a gardening stool, you can sit down a while you weed the flowerbed and it will keep you from having to hunch over so much. Your knees and back will thank you every time!

Keep your House Cool

We can get overheated in the garden, sometimes before we know it. If you are feeling light-headed, seeing spots, or if you feel your pulse pounding, go indoors immediately. It is important that your home be cool too, not hot and humid. So have the central air conditioner running. Soak a washcloth in cold water and place it on the back of your neck or forehead. These practices will help your body temperature cool quickly. Since having a cool home environment in hot weather is more than just an issue of comfort, make sure you have your hvac system maintained, fixed or even replaced if it's getting old. You need a cool retreat to truly beat the heat.

Have a great season out in your garden. If you tend your garden well, it will provide beauty, pleasure and lots of fresh veggies. And a well-tended gardener, can enjoy your pursuits more fully when you have taken precautions to keep yourself safe!
